Homeschooling allows the child to study on his or her own. When a child is homeschooled you can be assured that the teacher is focused on your child alone thus ensuring that he or she gets the best education. When homeschooling, there is less interaction with other children meaning your child is less likely to get distracted by other children resulting to better concentration on his or her current lesson. The pace in homeschooling will also adapt on how fast your child understands and absorbs the lesson. If your child takes time to understand a particular lesson then the teaching pace would then adapt to his pace. Some parents hire teachers for their homeschooled children while some would prefer a more personalized touch in that they teach their children themselves. Just like going to a regular school, homeschooling has a curriculum too and each curriculum depends on the state's laws regarding home schooling. Home schooling also needs learning materials and these materials can vary. Some of these home schooling materials or resources are briefly discussed below. 1. Tours. This allows the child to apply what he has learned to the present scenario. With practical application, the child would be able to understand better. Tours can also take the child back in time especially when you take him to a historical place or a museum and at the same time discuss to him the history of that place or that particular item on exhibit. Taking the child on a tour can also help him pay more attention to the topic at hand. 2. Books. This is one of the basic resources. Books for home schooled children are more or less the same with the books provided in a regular school. These books can contain various topics it can be about history, math, science and many more. The books can also be about helping parents to better teach their homeschooled children. Of course these books should be age appropriate. 3. DVDS and eBooks. Since this is the 21st century, some homeschooling resources are also made a little more high-tech. There are DVDs available that contains lessons and discussions about various topics. You can play the DVD and have your children watch it. Ebooks are widely available in the net and is downloadable. These are good alternatives in case you find books bulky and expensive. 4. Educational Games. Children with short attention span would surely like this alternative. There are a lot of educational games available on the net. Children especially those around 3 and 4 years old who are still into playing would surely prefer this than sitting on a chair and reading books. Educational games combine fun and learning so you won't have to worry about your children having too much fun and less learning. 5. Worksheets. Of course after all the discussion, the reading and the tours you will have to evaluate if your child has learned something. One of the best ways to evaluate learning is by letting your child answer some worksheets. Worksheets can be bought but in case you don't have time there are printable worksheets available on the net and all you have to do is print it. Homeschooling resources come in various forms. It can even be support groups where other parents can help you home school your child. Whatever the resources are as long as it provides your child his or her educational needs, then you are assured that you have chosen the right one. |
