Five Advantages When Using Worksheets

We know that there's a huge difference between being homeschooled and going to a regular school. Students at a regular school are required to be in class at a particular time. They will also have to endure teachers that they don't like and lastly they will have to interact with different people every day.

Compared to a homeschooled child, they can even choose their teachers and set the time for classes to start. However, the method of teaching still depends on the type of curriculum. Homeschooled children are not confined in the four walls of their houses or classrooms. They can learn by going to places together with their teacher or parents.

Every day a child learns something new. And how much information he or she can absorb will actually depend on his or her own capacity to understand. Each child differs; some may be able to understand with little explanation while for others in order for them to be able to grasp the whole idea, a particular topic has to be expounded.

We are familiar of students taking exams and making various projects. Home schooled children also have to undergo these and like any other student they also have to answer some worksheets.

1. Evaluation. Exams are one way of evaluating a child's understanding of her lessons. If she does well on her exams that means she understood her lessons. But exams can be stressful to students and even to homeschooled children. The fear of getting a low mark seems to haunt every child.

Worksheets on the other hand are like exams too except that there is less pressure doing it. These sheets can be answered as a homework or seatwork and can be given right after a particular lesson. It is also one way of evaluating how much information the child has absorbed after the discussion.

2. Handy. As the name suggests worksheets are just sheets of papers. As we all know papers are easy to carry around than tons and tons of books. Homeschooled children can even have it photocopied and compiled. And they can use it when reviewing for an exam or another activity.

3. Cheap. Worksheets are not that expensive. And if you want to save more you can visit homeschooling websites and print a copy of their printable worksheets. You can even make a worksheet yourself. A personalized worksheet would be an advantage especially if you're making it based on the educational tour you had with your student.

4. Fun. For young children who are homeschooled, worksheets are a fun way of evaluating their learning. We all know that children would prefer to answer activities that have cartoon characters rather than sheets filled with letters and blanks.

5. Better Understanding. Some children learn better if there's an image in front of them. Having a picture on their worksheets will allow children to understand the lesson better and follow the instructions. Some worksheets aim to help the child have a better grasp of the topic's main point while some worksheets help the child develop some skills.

A worksheet is just one of the many homeschooling resources. Whatever resources you use, as long as it is age appropriate, then there is no need to worry.
