Eight Must Have Home Schooling Materials

Preparing for homeschooling is not easy. You might get caught up preparing schedules, lessons and activities that you forget about another important aspect and that is preparing your home for home schooling. Here are some must have home schooling supplies.

1. Books. Although you can always use the internet to search for topics, it is still better to have books around. These books can be workbooks or study books. Remember that you are educating your child so as much as possible you teach her the lessons usually taught in a regular school only this time, you will able to make your child understand better because you are able to control the pace of your discussion.

Having books around will assure you that your child is at par with the other children in school despite being home schooled. The books should coincide with your child's grade level although it wouldn't hurt to be a little bit advanced.

2. Bookshelves. Of course, you will need to have something to store your books and what better way to store them than placing them on the bookshelf. If you don't have bookshelves in the house, you can either build one or buy one.

The size of the bookshelf will usually depend on the books you will put in it. It would also help if you store the book per category. Labeling will also make it easier to find a particular book. The more books you have, the bigger shelf you will need.

3. Notebooks. Just like in a regular school your child has to take notes too. Other than that, he or she can also use the notebook for activities. Your child can also use an assignment notebook in case you give him one. In this way, you won't have to worry about past assignments getting lost and it will also make it easier for you to monitor your child's progress.

4. Folders and clear books. This will come in handy in storing important papers and documents as well as worksheets. You can use these to store your child's previous worksheets as well as other papers like attendance sheets, assignment sheets, test results and articles to keep them organized.

Not having this item may result to your papers getting lost. Keep in mind that it is important to store papers because aside from helping you monitor your child's progress, you might need it someday like during an evaluation.

5. Supplies. Do not forget to buy pens, paper, clips, staples, crayons, pencils and erasers. Your child may not be going to a regular school but he or she still needs school supplies in home schooling. Remember that your child may have to do some writing, coloring and even art so you will have to make sure that he or she has the materials he or she needs to be able to push through with the activity.

6. Calendar. Always keep a calendar close at hand because this will help keep track of the time you spend tackling a particular topic. This will also keep you from overbooking both yourself and your child. With a calendar, it will be easier for you to make day to day plans.

7. Organizer. Do not trust everything to your memory because there is a great risk that you might forget something. So to avoid that, it would be best if you have an organizer. This will help you keep track of the things you have to do with the kids. This will also help you plan your lesson. Although you control the pace of the lesson, it doesn't mean that you can lag all you want.

8. Cabinets or small storage boxes. Of course, you will need to have something where you can store all your files and a cabinet is your best option. Small storage boxes will be very useful in storing pens, paper clips, crayons and other small items.
