Homeschooling may sound difficult because you will have to be the one to do most of the teaching and the checking. This is probably one of the many reasons why some parents don't prefer homeschooling. Then again, there are benefits from homeschooling and here are some of them. 1. Less peer pressure. In a regular school, our children mingle with other children. Some of these children can be good; others can be a bit too harsh. Of course, it is only natural for our child to feel the desire to belong. There are times when he or she views himself or herself as different and they will end up being alone in school. Due to the strong desire, our children will surely do anything just to become a part of a particular group and of course part of that process is doing what their friends tell them to do. Peer pressure plays an important role in our children's lives because through this they might end up doing something they shouldn't do. 2. Control. The school can be a haven for children because here they meet up with friends and mingle with other people. In school, they can do whatever they like. Some schools have a child friendly environment but because the students are too many, it would be very hard for the school officials and faculty to control their activity thus some children end up in gangs while others end up doing illicit activities. In homeschooling, you will be able to know what your child is doing. You will able to control the environment he or she is in. In addition, you won't have to worry about your child being influenced by people who are up to no good. 3. Each child varies in their learning capacity. Some children learn fast while others tend to lag behind. In homeschooling, you will be able to adjust the pace of the lesson according to your child's capacity. If your child is a bit slow, then you can spend enough time tackling a particular topic with him or her until he or she is able to grasp the whole concept. If your child is a fast learner, then you can move to another topic once he or she has understood the previous topic. 4. We have always heard of the quote, “Experience is the best teacher.” Indeed it is true and what better way to explain a particular lesson to a child than letting him see it and apply it in real life. Homeschooling doesn't necessarily mean studying at home. In fact, you can take your child to places to reinforce the lesson. For example, if your current topic is music, then you can take him to a concert or an opera. In this way, he or she will be able to differentiate the different genres of music he or she hears everyday. 5. Children tend to get bored in the classroom and they would end up daydreaming and thinking of something completely unrelated to the topic. The result is that they won't be able to understand what their teacher is saying. In homeschooling, you are given the opportunity to make learning exciting. You can vary your teaching methods and types in order to keep your child's interest on a particular topic. Other than that, you can also hold your lesson in the garden, the kiosk or the gazebo wherein the child doesn't feel trapped or held down. 6. When you home school your child, you get to spend a lot of time with him or her. Most of the time parents are too busy working and they tend to spend less and less time with their kids In home schooling, you are not just teaching your kids, you are also bonding with them. Due to this you will able to talk to them constantly and they will feel comfortable sharing things with you. In other words, homeschooling will also improve your relationship with your children as well as keep the line of communication open. |
